As you can see I designed a quick new header for the place. Let me know what you think. The contest is still on so get those design ideas in here if you want the chance to have your work showcased right here on the site.
This Week in Blogs
There is an interesting discussion on art and morals at The Forager.
Elayne Riggs talks about how women are not just in history, but making it at Pen-Elayne on the Web.
Laura "Tegan" Gjovaag continues her weekly comic reviews at Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog.
In Sequence talks about the amazing movie Triplets of Belleville.
Over at Attentiondeficitdisorderly Too Flat, Sean talks about his thread to counter the bad blood going around between blogs and boards. And in a post that makes that argument seem shallow he discusses the tragedy in Spain. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones.
Warren Ellis talks Sexual Anarchy and Pork at diepunyhumans.
Dewey's World holds up The Hedge Knight as his favorite read this month.
Grotesque Anatomy disagrees with a lot of people's reviews of this month's comics.
Thought Balloons posts about a local library we all wish we had.
Coup D'Rampage normally Fanboy Rampage talks about the Bendis Boards, Liefeld, and Mark Waid's Birthright.
And last but not least Ken at Ringwood Ragefuck (Viva La Losers!) talks about his personality disorders, gay marriage, and his immense love for M. Night Shyamalan.
Finally while not a blog check out an article about Mark Waid's Birthright and Sean McKeever on Mystique.

Lots of Good Stuff at Silver Bullet Comics
First of Beau Smith has a mission for us in his column:
I want you as a reader to start passin’ the good word to others. With technology like it is I’d love to see everyone that reads or buys comics to write a letter or send an email to a newspaper, news site, TV station, magazines… anywhere where it can be seen by others and sing the song of comics. If everyone did this I think others would pay attention. Let folks know that there is something really great out there waiting for them to read. Promote comics, Push comics, preach comics, be a friggin’ cheerleader! Hike up that skirt and show off those shapely legs, shake those pom poms, do that split! Root the home team of comics on to victory.
What can it hurt? It don’t cost ya anything to write a letter but time. Surely you have 5 minutes for comics.
If ya got some comics that ya don’t want anymore… give to someone that doesn’t read comics. Give em’ to a library… or one of my favorite things to do… give em’ to a barber shop. That’s a great place to discover comics.
All I’m askin’ ya to do is just that… DO!
Put your mouth in overdrive and rev up that comic book promotin’ machine. Talk a good game. Walk the walk. Put your comics where your mouth is. Don’t be a part of the silent majority… come on… Rah Rah Sis-Boom-BEAU!
If you cut out all the tougher than thou BS the guy actually has something to say and there's no doubting he loves the industry.
Also at SBC, Tim Hartnett has a good breakdown of pricing in comics over the years and how we're really not paying that much more than we did way back when.
The Panel has a pretty good topic this week as they look at "What comic would you give an 8 year old?"
Give SBC a look if you don't normally visit there for some intelligent discussion about comics often lacking at other sites.

Uncanny X-men Review
There is a hilarious review at the X-Axis of Chuck Austen's "She Lies With Angels" arc of Uncanny X-men done in verse. Thanks to Movie Poop Shoot and Attentiondeficitdisorderly Too Flat for pointing me to it.
Motion Graphics
Nice video work at uptheresolution. Check it out if you have a few minutes to spare.
Brian Hurtt's Sketchbook
J. Torres, in his column Open Your Mouth, takes a look at Brain Hurtt's Sketchbook as he asks him questions in a sort of Sketchbook Commentary article much like DVD Extras. I wouldn't mind seeing this kind of thing more often.
I'm a Loser...are you a loser too?
Comic Book Resources has an interview with the creators of the new incarnation of The Losers over at their site. Check it out and if you haven't bought the first TPB already stop reading this right this second and go get it.
Advertising Gone Wrong
Go here click on downloads and then hover over the woman and read the advertising copy on the left. I will never drink Dasani again. I'm going to go puke now.

Good Quote
This is a good quote i found on a design site that can be applied to comics too.
"We have to be brave and we have to be bad. If we’re bad, we can be the esthetic conscience of the business world. We can break the cycle of blandness. We can jam up the assembly line that spills out one dull, lookalike piece of crap after another. We can say, "Why not do something with artistic integrity and ideological courage?" We can say, "Why not do something that forces us to rewrite the definition of ‘good design’?" Most of all, bad is about recapturing the idea that a designer is the representative - almost like a missionary - of art, within the world of business. We’re not here to give them what’s safe and expedient. We’re not here to help clients eradicate everything of visual interest from the face of the earth. We’re here to make them think about design that’s dangerous and unpredictable. We’re here to inject art into commerce. We’re here to be bad."

Six Flags Catfight
Following their recent ride, Superman:Ultimate Flight, Six Flags is now launching a new attraction called Batman vs. Catwoman:Catfight which "features the Dynamic Duo, Batman and Robin, as they battle to save Gotham City from the evil clutches of Catwoman and The Joker in this all-new, high-voltage adventure."
Isn't the definition of a Catfight a fight between either two cats or, in slang, two women. Last I checked Batman wasn't a woman, nor a cat. Also my geek side came out after hearing this and I thought, "Isn't Catwoman a hero now? She wouldn't team up with the Joker. Yeah she steals stuff but she's not a killer." Anyway, for those that aren't put off by this check it out at Six Flags. Oh and if you are put off by this, it could be worse. It could be the movie version.

More Exclusives
Two more exclusives join the ranks at DC as Ethan Van Sciver and Jerry Ordway both signed 2 year agreements with the company today. Thanks to Comic Book Resources for the news.
Ethan Van Sciver:
"DC Comics and I are finally going steady," Van Sciver, the artist of "The Flash: Iron Heights" and "New X-Men" said in a press release. "It's a distinct honor and a privilege to join the ranks of DC exclusives, and I wish to thank Dan DiDio, Joey Cavalieri, Peter Tomasi, Stephen Wacker and all of the editors and staff who have made the past year so enjoyable and exciting for me. I'm grateful to be recognized as one of the creators who DC doesn't like to share with other companies. That's love reciprocated. With 'Batman/Catwoman: Trail of a Gun' and several 'Flash' covers completed and ready for release later this year, I'm looking forward to the challenges that 2004 will bring, and anticipating the monumental project that comes with the signing of this contract."
"Ethan is a very accomplished creator on the verge of becoming a comic book superstar, said Dan DiDio, DC's VP - Editorial in a release. "Ethan's style and attention to detail is exactly what we are looking for as we continue to push and improve on the caliber of our storytelling. He is a welcome new addition to the DC family."
Jerry Ordway:
"I have had many great experiences in 20-plus years in this business, and most have happened while working for DC Comics," said Ordway in a press release. "I'm thrilled to be working exclusively for DC, with editors like Scott Dunbier, Mike Carlin, Peter Tomasi and others over the next two years, doing a job I love."
"Jerry Ordway is a tremendous talent whose artistic style is in the best tradition of classic Golden Age illustrators - but without ever feeling dated," said Scott Dunbier, Executive Editor - WildStorm in a release. "I look forward to continuing our working relationship."

Buffy to Return to Angel
Voy.com reports via moviehole.net that Buffy will be returning to Angel, sort of.
“It looks as if Buffy probably will appear at the end of the year, because Spike and Angel are in Italy looking for her. The sides are very fragmentary and I can’t tell for sure whether or not Buffy is in this episode, but Angel and Spike do show up at the Summers’ apartment in Rome at one point, and Dawn opens the door. So they must have gotten Michelle Trachtenberg back too."
Please visit the article if you would like to read more, but be warned it contains spoilers.

The overall template will remain the same, but any colors can be changed including the background. Please send your ideas as a jpeg or gif no larger than 1MB to beetle78net@yahoo.com. The Winner will recieve full credit of the design on the site in a permanent link in the sidebar credited as the designer.
Judd Winick launches new cartoon
I just found out via Fanboy Rampage that Judd Winick has just signed with Cartoon Network to release The Life and Times of Juniper Lee in February 2005. It has been described as a stroy about "atypical modern-day 11-year old girl with the atypical special responsibility of fighting the forces of chaos and mischief." The original article can be seen here.
Harvey Pekar with 4 Book Deal from Ballantine
Newsarama reports:
“The first book is a sequel of sorts to American Splendor,” said Schluep, “and will chronicle Harvey and his family’s extraordinary experiences in making the film.” This title, together with the anthology of previously published materials, is scheduled for release in Fall 2004.
“The second two graphic novels will be biographical, rather than autobiographical,” Schluep continued, “and will be based upon the lives of two fascinating but ordinary individuals that Harvey met during his American Splendor film experience.” These are tentatively due to be released in Fall 2005 and Fall 2006.
Awesome news. I didn't read any of Pekar's work until right before the movie was released, but once I did I couldn't get enough. His slice of life stories are amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Still haven't seen the movie though. I need to rectify that situation.

Rude Returns
Steve Rude returns to comics with The Moth. The artwork on this title looks gorgeous. Looks like this may be worth the wait. I've been a fan of Steve Rude since way back at the beginning of his Nexus days. Glad to see him in the news. Thanks to Newsarama for the heads up.
When asked about everyone's sense of Deja Vu over the character Rude says, "“I came up with the Moth - and The Silencer - when asked to participate in a creator-owned trading card set back in the early ‘90s,” said Steve Rude on the origins of the character. “The skull on the Moths chest is an association with the Death's Head moth, indigenous to Europe and Africa, and known for raiding farmer’s potato fields. This was actually the original name for the character, before shortening it to the Moth."
I had that set and still prize it today. Out of all the card sets that were released around this time I still have this one. Nice to see that some of the creators have done things with the characters they created for it.

Have News, Will Travel
Warren Ellis posts on his blog die puny humans a link to Steven Van Dyke's How News Travels on the Internet. Very interesting read. I would recommend checking out the secondary articles he's posted for further reading into the subject. Nice work here.
Where will you be...the day after tomorrow.
YES!!! The return of the disaster movie. Looks like this one doesn't pull out any stops either. I'm really liking Quaid lately too. Check out The Day After Tomorrow trailer.
UPDATED: Whoever wins...we lose.
Quicktime has released an internet exclusive trailer for Aliens vs. Predator.
UPDATE: Well thats weird, they took it down. I'll have to see whats up with this.

Guillermo del Toro Not on DD
Comics2Film reports:
Guillermo del Toro, who may be the most accessible film director in the world commented on the 'Daredevil 2' rumors for those who bothered to ask him: "Not true at all. I have been approached for other Marvel projects. But not this one. As of now I have no plans to do a comic movie in the future except for DOMU and/or COFFIN."
I think i'm more excited about him adapting Domu or the Coffin to the big screen.

I was warned, but did I listen? Noooooo....
Well Dewey from Dewey's World warned me when he posted The Grand Comic Book Database that it was highly addicting, but did I listen? Of course not. I'm betting no one else will either.
What I'm Buying...
DC COMICS
JAN040288 100 BULLETS #49 (MR) $2.50
One of the best crime/conspiracy series published today.
JAN040222 ACTION COMICS #813 $2.25
Overall I was highly dissapointed in the Godfall arc. This last issue sucked my right back in though. Now I want to know whats up.
JAN040276 COUP DETAT AFTERWORD (MR) $2.95
This crossover did it's job as it got me into the Authority again. I want to see how they handle that much power. I was already buying the other series.
JAN040235 FALLEN ANGEL #9 (MR) $2.50
I'm scared for this book. I heard it's not selling well. Probably becuase it's not the typical stuff that Peter David writes. It's better. The characters are so mysterious and we're only clued in to little peices of the puzzle at a time. I can't wait for each issue. I have to know Lee's background. They better not cancel this series before there is a logical ending.
JAN040219 GOTHAM CENTRAL #17 $2.50
NYPD done Gotham style. Best cop book out there right now. Looks like other companies are starting to pop up with their own police titles as well. Anyway, Michael Lark's art is perfect for this series.
JAN040238 GREEN ARROW #36 $2.50
Judd Winick still has me picking this up month to month. This latest arc features the Riddler. I'm not going to worry about if this is pre-Hush, post-Hush, or mid-Hush Riddler. I'm just gonna read the damn book and enjoy it.
JAN040291 HELLBLAZER SON OF MAN TP (MR) $12.95
I have about 4 issues of this. I just wanted it for my bookshelf mainly.
JAN040245 JLA #94 $2.25
The beginning of the Claremont/Byrne run. I'll check it out.
JAN040244 JSA #59 $2.50
Always a good read. Plus it's the fallout from Black Reign.
JAN040285 STORMWATCH TEAM ACHILLES #20 (MR) $2.95
Lets see if this series can pick itself back up after a weak crossover issue. Oh and this is the issue with Words on the cover. Behold!!!
IMAGE
OCT031288 POWERS #37 (MR) $2.95
Always a smart buy. Oeming is one of my favorite artists as well.
MARVEL
JAN041547 AVENGERS THUNDERBOLTS #1 (Of 6) $2.99

My weekly dose of intrigue. It's getting a bit overdone though. I think it's time to wrap some of the storylines up.
JAN041545 IRON MAN #78 $2.99
I haven't been this entertained by Iron Man since his drinking days.
JAN041564 MARVEL KNIGHTS 4 #3 $2.99
Steve McNiven can DRAW! I look forward to each issue just for the art. To top it all off the story is pretty damn good too. Who would have thought I would like this better than the regular FF title.
JAN041538 SHE HULK #1 $2.99
Giving it a try out.
JAN041531 SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #11 $2.25

The Superman Problem
I'm posting this to start up some kind of discussion on an otherwise boring day. Keep in mind these posts are all dated before the announcement of the Superman relaunch. Hope this works...

I think the statement that Superman needs spicing up pretty much sums up his entire existence in comics. I've expounded on the "Superman problem" to my friends before, but I don't think I have here. Simply put, he's too powerful. He flies. He's invulnerable. He's superfast, and superstrong. He has heat vision, and X-ray eyes. And he's fully capable of handling all these powers and functioning as a normal human being. He's just too good. Ordinary criminals can't cope with him. Most supervillains can't cope with him on their own.
And as Arthur C. Clarke noted, utopia is dull. It's hard to make him interesting when he can't be hurt, when you know there's no risk of defeat. So what do they do? They invent kryptonite. Superman becomes weaker when in the presence of a glowing piece of rock. Hoo-ray. This basically changed the formula from "Supes shows up and criminals wet themselves" to having a second option of "Supes shows up, criminals have kryptonite, Superman nearly dies but manages to get rid of kryptonite, criminals wet themselves." And, as might be expected, it didn't really work. A temporary, artificial weakness isn't the solution to the problem caused by his overload of powers.
So they create Doomsday. Let Superman have a foe who can really hurt him, heck, why not kill him temporarily? The basic idea here is good, although it's worth noting that the trick only works once; killing him a second time just won't have the same oomph. But they messed up with Doomsday in another respect; while Superman being at risk improves the interest level, Doomsday himself isn't very interesting. He's just a monster, a thing. As far as piquing the reader's interest he might as well be a Kryptonian shark. That's about as far as his character goes. And because Doomsday-as-character isn't very interesting, Doomsday-as-threat fails to be interesting.
Green Lantern gets away with the quasi-omnipotence factor because of two things. First, the Lantern has to come to grips with how to use the power of the ring. GLs aren't omnipotent, only potentially so; whether they achieve that omnipotence is up to their ingenuity. This provides a basic point to start with for creating a "risk" element; they might not figure out the puzzle. The other thing is that Green Lantern is often a conflicted character in one way or another. Kyle Rayner knows less about being a Green Lantern than any Lantern in history; he's unversed in the lore (initially). He's unsure of what he's doing, and that makes him interesting. Hal Jordan had to deal with a former mentor turned bad (former friends are usually interesting enemies), periodic disillusionment with the job, and eventually the desire to use his power for his own ends. But Superman is not a conflicted character. He's pretty stable, by and large. He knows what he's doing, he enjoys it, and he believes it's the right thing to do -- and other people agree as well. And it's probably impossible to change that in the main continuity without it seeming a major schism, so we're stuck with it. But it's probably the primary reason why the Elseworlds tales of Superman are so popular; we can get a conflicted Superman in Elseworlds.
Now, I'm probably coming across anti-Superman by now, and I don't mean to. I like Superman, I'd just like to see some more interesting things done with him. What do I think DC has done right in the past? Making him vulnerable to magic: magic is something widely available (relatively speaking), and isn't some deus-ex-machina device like kryptonite just to give the writers something to work with. It's even possible to think of logical reasons why magic can hurt him; it works outside of the physical laws which otherwise make him invulnerable. Darkseid: a physically powerful, but also highly intelligent villain. He can pose a threat to Superman, but is also an interesting character in his own right. Lex Luthor as President: Superman knows he's evil, knows he's up to something, and can't do a thing about it. This provides a mental conflict, and may be the smartest thing they've done yet with Superman.
The thing with Superman is, I really believe that in order for a superhero like him to be interesting, they need adversaries on their level. And Superman doesn't have them. Darkseid is close, but you can't have every issue be against Darkseid. Luthor is easily smarter than Superman, but can't do much against him directly. Doomsday is powerful, but dull. Bizarro's an even match physically, but not exactly the brightest bulb in the basket. And nobody else is even in contention. That's only four significant villains, and only Darkseid can be considered an equal.
Flash has a whole Rogue's Gallery of villains that are on a par with him; their physical and mental abilities, when combined, are roughly equal to his. Batman has an asylum full of adversaries that are, each and every one of them, a real problem for him to handle. Superman has Darkseid, Luthor, Doomsday and Bizarro. That's it.
Superman needs to be getting roughed up on a regular basis. Superman needs a Rogue's Gallery.
My Reply:
I think they need to play up the iconic level that he has. Everyone on earth recognizes Superman. What would it be like if he existed in the real world? How does he deal with the press. Not just newspapers. How does he deal with politics. Wouldn't countries think he was playing favorites? Who is he to decide who is right and who is wrong? That kind of stuff. Make him bigger than life. Since he can't really be hurt...show that. Show how the world deals with a superpowered alien from another planet that might not have the same inrests that countries have. Show him affecting the world. Not simply being in it. I don't think it has to do with his powers though Smallville goes that route by having him learn his powers slowly. Human interaction is also another thing that is missing. The stories need to get back to normal humans and how living in a world with Superman affects them.
Update: Some of these issues are being used now in the upcoming relaunch of the character.

Bruce Campbell in Spider-man 2
Superhero Hype has an update on Bubba Ho-tep and Bruce Campbell's role in Spider-man 2.
A poster named "Funkmidget" says:
I attended the Nacogdoches Film Festival this weekend in Nacogdoches, Texas. It was the east Texas premiere of Bubba Ho-tep, a truly excellent piece of cinema. Bruce Campbell was in attendance, and I was able to talk to him for a bit and find out two newsworthy pieces of information.
The first is that the Bubba Ho-tep will be released on DVD the same time as ROTK, May 25th. Anyone who is a Bruce Campbell fan and has not seen this should pick it up.
Secondly, I asked Bruce about his cameo in Spiderman 2. He said that it's not just a cameo, he actually DEFEATS SPIDERMAN. Of course, that's all he could say. He added, in true sarcastic Bruce manner, that "in the first film I named him, in the second I defeat him, in the third I will probably play him!"

Blood and Water Returns
Newsarama reports that the vampire series by Judd Winick and Tom Coker will be back for more. Winick told Fan Boy Radio, “This one will be a little bit more action oriented as well. The first one was written with the plan and hope that we would do more. Not a series, not in a row, but kind of in a sense like Hellboy - that we would keep coming back to the characters. And with each arch, we'll evolve.
We've got this next one... I've got it all mapped out... it'll be another 6 issues and it'll take us in a decidedly different direction. Again, it's very post-modern in the sense that the vampires are very aware of all of the other vampire mythos and that's what I wanted to do. These are vampires living in as close to our world as possible - in a world where superheroes are in comic books, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is on TV and Anne Rice is in books. And they're all aware of that but are like "No, no. This is what vampires really are." And now we are going to take the next step and follow Adam's further adventures as a vampire.”
I really enjoyed this series and can't wait for the next installment. This is good news.

Brian K. Vaughan Interview at Newsarama
Newsarama has a Brian K. Vaughan interview about his upcoming 4 issue arc on ultimate X-men where he will introduce the X-men villain Mister Sinister to the Ultimate universe.
Some interesting quotes from the article:
"This time out, rather than a megalomaniacal mutant overlord with an eye on genetic manipulation and control of the world’s mutant population, Mr. Sinister is a serial killer targeting mutants in Manhattan – some of his targets, in fact, may be characters who’ve already taken the stage in UXM or elsewhere in the Ultimate Marvel Universe."
“I've started working on a few incredible new projects - Ultimate X-Men, the upcoming Ex Machina ongoing with Tony Harris for Wildstorm, a 128-page creator-owned original graphic novel for Vertigo, and some other secret stuff, and unfortunately, something had to give from my schedule.
”I was extremely reluctant to leave Mystique, but when I heard that Marvel wanted Sean McKeever to take my place, I knew that I would at least be leaving the series in great hands. As everyone who read Sentinel knows, Sean's one of the best writers working today, and having spoken with him briefly about his plans for Mystique, I can tell you that his run is going to destroy mine.”
“There's [also] been talk of doing more with Cloak and Dagger, actually. I don’t know, do readers want that? I'll let the Talkbackers decide…and I promise not to make fun of you if you hate Dagger's new outfit... this time."
Hmmm...New Cloak and Dagger series by Vaughan. I'd buy that.

Rich Johnston's Rumors
Rich Johnston has some rumors for us this monday morning over at Comic Book Resources as usual...
He reports:
1602 will become a series of spin offs as Marvel hopes to turn the series into their "Sandman" title.
He also explains a little about the Eminem/Wanted news last week:
"So how did the "Wanted"/Eminem story come about?
Like Samuel Jackson appearing in "The Ultimates" as Nick Fury, Millar had JG Jones "cast" Eminem as the star in the visuals of the comic. He's not been shy of dropping hints to the right people, as to the cinematic future of the project starring the famed rapper, whether valid or not. Including journalists.
He then used printed reports of the project in the tabloid press as a self-fulfilling strategy when pitching the comic as a film option, while in public has brushed them off as mere frippery, as if he's the first to hear about them. This week he stated that the Scottish Sunday Times had simply broken an embargo on the story, yet it's believed Millar knew full well it was running last week.
And this week Universal announced they'd optioned "Wanted" as a movie. Eminem is nowhere to be seen, was never involved with the project, his people deny any connection, and indeed before all this fuss, announced he wasn't doing any more movie projects for quite a while."
Also mentioned is this post which indeed makes The Comics Journal look like a muckraker.
Some movie news as Rich lets fly that Frank Miller's "300" is being produced by Frank Miller, Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton with a screenplay by Michael Gordon which supposedly got him the job writing the G.I. Joe live action movie script.
B. Clay Moore and Jeremy Huan do a series for Image described as "Ultimate JSA" set in WW2. Check out Rich's LITG for art.
Bill Sienkiewicz won't be working on Batman anymore due to scheduling complications.
Rich also has some possible spoilers for Identity Crisis which I will not post here.
Then he becomes my favorite person as he posts some beautiful Morse art from Everest.
Oh and more free press for his comic Holed Up.

WB May Keep Angel?
A poster on the City of Angel forum reports that the WB may decide to keep Angel on for another season if the ratings stay up beyond a certain mark.
"My friend flukie (inside info guy) has informed me that the WB has signed Angel up for a 6th season provided that the rating increase and the pleas to keep angel alive are massing over the 2 million mark so the WB will consider Angel to be its most important asset."

Daredevil 2 News
Newsaskew reports that "Hellboy" director Guillermo del Toro is interested in directing the sequel to "Daredevil".
The site goes on to say that, "This superhero/horror story focuses on the fall from grace of Matt Murdock's secret identity. Like the original story, 90 percent of the film will feature DD without his costume, but rather he will be fighting evil in his civilian clothes." Efavata also weighs in with news that the villain will be "Bushwhacker", a religious assassin who has it out for Mutants. Ben Affleck flip flopped on his earlier statement in which he said he was not interested in the movie. He now says he would be willing to play the roll if it was a much darker part than the original movie. The movie is titled Daredevil: Born Again and is expected to open in 2005.

Guy Peirce to Cameo as Dent
Batman on Film reports that Guy Peirce may do a cameo (word up...it's the code word) as Harvey Dent in the upcoming Batman Begins.
“Two separate scoopers--one new, and one longtime source--emailed me today with the same rumor. And I said rumor, so take it as such. In the script, Harvey Dent is only mentioned, and he's never seen in person. Nonetheless, both sources said they heard that Asst. D.A. Harvey Dent could make a small cameo (word up...it's the code word..wee ooo wee ooo woo) in BATMAN BEGINS. And Guy Pearce may play Dent in this scenario. This is hardly set in stone, but I will say that if Pearce agreed to the role, he could easily by inserted into the film. BOF's longtime source says that even if Pearce/Dent appears in the film, this does not mean that Two-Face will be in the sequel--or the one after....”
Oh and one other thing...sorry about the Cameo-Word Up references. I have the song stuck in my head.

Megacon
Just got back from Megacon. Not too much to talk about since I could only go Sunday and by that time everything was winding down. I do have two possible interviews that if they come through you should see soon. So that's a plus. I also got some great buys.
4 David Mack Signed Prints-
These are so beautiful. I've loved this guys work ever since I first saw it in Kabuki Circle of Blood. The originals can't be described they are so amazing.
Blue Monday: Absolute Beginners TPB-
I was skeptical about this series as I've heard good and bad things. I really enjoyed it though. It's got a good teen soap opera comedy thing going you usually only see in some Manga books. I'll be checking out more from Chynna Clugston-Major.
Heroes Anonymous: Superhero Therapy #3-
Picked this up from Andrew Pepoy. Haven't read it yet. I bought it on the strength of the title alone.
vanguard Production's Edge-
/start rant What is the deal with alternate covers. I despise them. Especially when stuff is packaged in sleeves. I bought this at the con and turns out I have it already with a Dave McKean cover. I though, wow, they came out with another one. Cool. I then went home and took it out of the sleeve and cussed for about 5 minutes. There goes $18. Good book, but not good enough to buy it twice./end rant
Give Me Liberty: An American Dream TPB by Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons-
This is the story of Martha Washington and was published in 1990. Wow. What a story this is. Frank Miller is good at creating bleak futures and heroes that you can root for and this book is no exception. I'll speak more on this later.
Martha Washington Goes to War TPB by Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons-
This is the less than worthy sequel. I thought the original stood well on it's own, but they decided to continue Martha's story. The look of the first series from the pencils down to the coloring is missing here as things have a smooth line and have lost the grit of the original. The coloring looks like it was the early stages of computer coloring as overtaking looks too vivid and bright. The colorist also used several digital effects that only serve to take me out of the story. All the grit and grime fromt he first series is gone and with that gone it was enough to prevent me from enjoying the story as much as I might have. Still....It's worth a look.
The Losers: Ante Up TPB-
Holy shit! This book rocks! This is the best heist movie I've ever seen and it's not even a movie....yet. If Hollywood has a brain they will make this a movie. It's tailor made. I now have to go out and hunt down issues #7-9. I'm kicking myself for not reading this earlier. Loved every minute of it. Later I'll go into more detail and tell you how I really feel. heh.
More Fund Comics: Baltimore Comic-Con 2003 Edition-
Just doing my part to help the CBLDF. Great book too.
Kabuki: Metamorphosis-
/startgushingfanboy David Mack is one of the best talents in the industry. He has surpassed McKean's place in my list of best covers. His collage work, penciling, painting, sense of color, storytelling, characterization, everything is amazing. I will buy anything this guy publishes./endgushingfanboy
Richard Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung Vol.1 by P. Craig Russel-
Always wanted to check this out.
Animal Man TPB by Grant Morrison-
I have most of these issues but it's the easiest way to fill out what I'm missing. Great stuff here.
Soulwind Book One: The Kid From Planet Earth by Scott Morse-
Quickly becoming one of my favorite creators.
Shade the Changing Man: The American Scream TPB by Peter Milligan, Chris Bachalo, and Mark Pennington-
Strong work from Milligan. Another trade to fill out my missing issues in my collection.
Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol.1 by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben-
Since I bought the relaunch I figure I should catch up on the issues I'm missing in Moore's run, which is quite a few. Can't really go wrong with Moore though.
Skreemer by Peter Milligan, Brett Ewins, and Steve Dillon-
I heard this was good so I picked it up.
I also picked up two Spawn figures based on Ashley Wood covers. I love the guys pin ups and covers, but I just can't get into his sequential work. If I do buy his stuff it's usually for the art alone more than the story. Anyway that does it for my purchases. :) I'll write more later and get to work on those interviews tomorrow. I have some good news to post for Floridians as well. Peace.

Peace.
